Development of fixed-time artificial insemination protocols for locally adapted Curraleiro Pé-Duro cows Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Tortorella,R.D.; Modesto,M.R.; Neves,J.P.; Ramos,A.F..
ABSTRACT Two experiments were conducted aiming to evaluate the effects of two ovulatory inducers (Exp.1) and equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG; Exp.2) on follicular and luteal dynamics in a fixed-time AI (FTAI) protocol in locally adapted Curraleiro Pé-Duro cows. In Exp. 1 multiparous cows (n=12) received an intravaginal device containing 1g of progesterone (P4) for 8 days and 2mg of estradiol benzoate (EB) intramuscularly (IM) at device insertion (Day 0). At device removal (Day 8) 0.150mg of Sodium D-Cloprostenol was administered IM and the cows were randomly assigned to receive 1mg of EB (EB8) or 1mg of estradiol cypionate (EC8) IM, or to not receive any ovulatory inducer (Control). All the animals participated in all treatments (crossover). The...

Follicle-stimulating hormone to substitute equine chorionic gonadotropin in the synchronization of ovulation in Santa Inês ewes R. Bras. Zootec.
Cardoso Neto,Bianor Matias; Barbosa,Larissa Pires; Aguiar,Cristiane da Silva; Souza,Rosiléia Silva; Santana,Ana Lúcia Almeida; Mendes,Claudinéia Silva; Dutra,Patrícia Alves; Leite,Meiby Carneiro de Paula.
The substitution of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) by follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in protocols for synchronization of ovulation in Santa Inês ewes was assessed. Ten females were submitted to the insertion of intravaginal sponges containing 60 mg medroxyprogesterone acetate for 10 days; after this period sponges were withdrawn and the animals were randomly divided into two groups. Group 1 (n = 5): intramuscular injection of 0.5 mL d-cloprostenol and 300 UI eCG; Group 2 (n = 5): intramuscular injection of 0.5 mL d-cloprostenol and 20 mg FSH. Interval between sponge withdrawal and estrus beginning was 27.7 h and 35.9 h for eCG and FSH, respectively. Interval between sponge withdrawal and the end of estrus was 55.8 h for eCG treatment and 55.6 h...

Ovarian response of Suffolk ewes to estrous synchronization using short-term protocol R. Bras. Zootec.
Takada,Luciana; Bicudo,Sony Dimas; Rodrigues,Carlos Frederico de Carvalho; Coelho,Lia de Alencar; Mendes,Luiz Claudio Nogueira; Perri,Sílvia Helena Venturoli.
The efficacy of estrus synchronization using short-term protocol was evaluated by ultrasound exams in Suffolk ewes during the pre-breeding season. The control Group (n = 12) was synchronized by treatment for 12 days with vaginal sponges impregnated with medroxyprogesterone acetate, and 400 IU eCG at sponge withdrawal. Experimental groups I, II and III kept the sponge in place for 4 days, and 100 µg of PGF2a was administered at sponge withdrawal. Additionally, Group I (n = 12) had 0.1 mg of estradiol benzoate (EB) administered during sponge placement and 50 µg of GnRH 48 hours after sponge removal. Group II (n = 6) had 35 mg of progesterone (P4) injected, and 0.1 mg of EB administered during sponge placement, 400 IU eCG at withdrawal and 48 hours after, 50...

Pattern of follicular development in sheep subjected to ovarian superstimulation after follicular ablation by laparoscopic ovum pick-up Ciência Rural
Denadai,Renan; Leite,Hyago Ramalho; Bicudo,Luana de Cássia; Rodello,Leandro; Oba,Eunice; Bicudo,Sony Dimas.
ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to determine the pattern of follicular development in ewes following ablation of all follicles associated with ovarian superstimulatory treatment. After confirmation of reproductive cyclicity using ultrasonography and progesterone levels, five adult ewes of undetermined breed received a vaginal pessary containing 60mg of medroxyprogesterone, maintained for 10 days, with the application of 100μg cloprostenol on the fourth day. On the tenth day, 300UI equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) was applied together with 80mg FSH, and all visible follicles were aspirated by laparoscopic ovum pick-up (LOPU). Following LOPU, ovarian structures were assessed using sonography every 8 hours for a period of 64 hours, and the number and...
